Random...and loads of pics...

As promised, and maybe to celebrate my weekend return to the world of MARVELOUS INTERNET CONNECTION, this post shall be LOADED with pictures; String Ensemble, Musical Night, SS Pics...enjoy viewing, people... (Pics are below the cat profile)

But before that, may I ask, DOES ANYONE WANT A CAT?

Name: Devil (will be explained later)
Age: Probably 1 - 2 months
Gender: Female
Colour: Black with white socks, and a white belly (see picture)

Oh, and as I'm posting now, little Devil is scratching my pyjamas, clambering all over me, and MEOWING NON-STOP...

I'm growing real attached to this kitten...can't believe that less than 24 hours ago, she was still nervous about letting me touch here and now she's so unbelievably manja........(now asleep on my lap, by the way...)

Ok, let me just tell the brief story on how this little Devil touched our lives yesterday...I guess many of you'll think its another one of Shu's crazy animal rantings again....oh well...

Episode 1: The Meeting

Christina had her Campus Alive activity every Thursday, and with her *cough cough hint hint* sense of direction (=P), I turned into guide-dog mode and took her to the tiny Akasia cafeteria. It was pretty dark by then, and just as she went off with her two friends, a little kitten on the road really caught my attention. Firstly, the colour was lovely, a shiny shade of black, with dainty white socks and a white underbelly; and secondly, it was prancing and pouncing at nothing whatsoever, just like a kid in a childish bliss.

You guys know how animals attract me, therefore I crouched, calling the little kitten which refused to come to me (duh...)

I went over to it, and thank goodness I did just that...A car turned into that road just that instant, and seeing me, it slowed to almost a halt. The black kitten that easily camouflaged with the road just sat there, blinking at the glaring headlights of the car. I shudder to think what could have happened; little Devil could have been well and throughly squashed...

It took a while, but it soon allowed me to touch it, flipping on its back to paw at my hand. Something in me just melted. I scooped the kitten away from the road, and headed back to Christina;s room, intending to show it to Jillian.

Episode 2: An Angel?

Just as I expected, Jillian was equally enamoured of the new arrival as I was. I expected Christina would be as well, and I SMS-ed her about it.

After spending a while gushing over it, we returned to the mounting pile of homework that awaited us.

And guess what our little kitten did? She just curled up on the table and went to sleep! Omg, it was SOOOOOO SWEEEET just watching her doze...such peace...such bliss...she was an angel...

Her presence brought about such a peceful atmosphere.....

Episode 3: Finding Food

When she woke up feeling hungry, Jillian prepared some milk and sliced off the base of a mineral water bottle to serve as a plate. She was clearly hungry, and the milk didn't seem like her idea of a hearty meal. There wasn't any food, however, so we just had to bear with her pitiful meowing...

Christina came back a while later, bursting in through the door demanding where's the cat. Apparently, throughout Campus Alive, she had been thinking of the kitten in her room, and worrying that I might have released it outside.

I was pretty surprised when she easily suggested going out to get some food for the kitten...I guess I've already grown accustomed to being the only person crazy enough to go out of my way to help an animal (*remembering the McDonalds kitten case*) that suddenly meeting people who care for them as much as I do is a surprise...

We left Jillian in the room to take care of the cat, while Christina and I donned jackets and went out hunting for food for our kitten. Finally, we ended up buying a 99 cents packet of Whiskas from Giant (along with some of Christina's junk food), then returned back home to a beleagured Jillian who had been chasing the kitten all over the room.

She seemed to really appreciate the food, though...Clearly, she was hungry...

Episode 4: Name revealed?

We couldn't decide on a name, as Jillian and Christina wanted to name here "Ning", and I was equally adamant that they shouldn't.

Her character, however, solved the naming problem for us. You see, once she had her fill, she was a total rascal, running and leaping up and down, scratching the couch, chewing laptop and handphone, climbing on us with REALLY sharp claws, etc...

So be it then...

Official name: Devil

And she really is a devil in disguise...On Christina's lap later on, she was an utter angel, melting all our hearts when she slept like a little innocent baby,,,and guess what, this little rascal later puked up part of its food, and PEE-ED on Christina...and yours truly had to clear the mess...

Devil by name, devillish by nature...

Episode 5: The Next Day

Devil had to stay outside, as no one wanted to risk waking up to a stinking house and a heap of poop when we woke up the next day. It was really hard for me to leave her outside, listening to her lost meows but there was nothing I could do but hope that she would still be around the next morning for me to take her to SPCA.

The next morning, however, Devil was still waiting outside...mewing at me the moment I peeped outside. I wasted no time in preparing the leftover cat food from yesterday for her breakfast, praying fervently for her to still be around in the afternoon. I guess I was pretty adamant of finding her a good new home...

However, when we returned, she was nowhere to be found. Christina and Jillian clearly missed her too, and we even attempted mewing around college to call her.

It was to no avail until several hours later, when we saw a group of young kids clutching a black kitten like a rag doll, even dropping it on the road. I ached to run and rescue her, especially when I heard her terrified cry (she's scared of heights, by the way) but there was no way I could grab a kitten away from Akasia's resident staff's kids, could I?

~~~
However, when Christina and I returned, thinking of various ways to rescue Devil, we saw the little black kitten huddled fearfully under a tricycle. The kids had abandoned her, at least for the time being....but there was no telling when they would be back...
Well, what did you expect 2 Vets-To-Be to do? Leave the poor kitten to either get run over, or suffer in the hands of kids who still did not understand respect for animals?
Christina grabbed Devil and we bolted up the steps, trying to mask the mewing as much as we could. While I packed my stuff to return for the weekend, she watched her, and even managed to stop her JUST IN TIME from pooping on my couch. The 3rd floor of Laman 3 is really going to stink tonight, though...
Finally, Devil was carried to my mom's car hidden by Christina's jacket, much to her disgust that the cat that just pooped was nestled against her clothes...
~~~~~

Finally, our rescue attempt was successful, and tomorrow, I shall bid goodbye to this little kitten who touched our hearts deeply, even for a brief period of time. I have to say, I've grown more attached to her than I have been towards cats for a very long time, and all I can really hope for now is for a kind soul to take her tomorrow. Yes, our little Devil deserves a good home...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Akasia is starting to feel more and more like home now, as I begin to settle into the normal routines of life.
One thing though, it seems like everyone is forced to grow up here, one way or the other. Before this, all we had to worry about was studying, homework, getting good grades, etc. But now, its still studying, homework, and getting good grades...along with finding time for laundry, remembering to dump the garbage, grocery shopping for fruits to try and avoid getting sick, finding our own doctors if we get sick, living off a tight budget, deciding what's for dinner, waking up real early to fight for the bus...
I can't help but feel that should I have continued in Taylor's I would definitely be living far comfortably than now, but would probably never get the chance to experienced and independant life outside. Life is tougher here, but I can't help but think about some of my friends who are living comfortably the way I did a month before...I suppose everyone'll have to go through this someday...
Adaptation skill is vital. Why, the AUSMAT cafe is always packed with people during the lunch hour that often, there's barely any food left, apart from some mystery meat if we're slightly late. And for those brave enough to try the mystery meat...well...
We've adapted to racing down in between period changes at 10 to tapau lunch, then bringing it to class and eating at 1pm. Sure, the food would have been cold by then, but most will tell you they'll rather eat cold food, than risk consuming the occassional Liver or Lung............*cough hint*
I actually have far more I want to say, but its almost 5am, and I'll probably collapse in sheer exhaustion tomorrow if I don't sleep now, considering the past few nights that I barely slept...
