Musical Night 2007

String Ensemble: Draw Your Bow...
Luthier String Ensemble performing

Gah, darn you, Internet connection...I had to type my stuff in Notepad again...

And I'm dying here...several HUNDRED (I'm not exaggerating) questions of Maths, Bio homework, English assignment AND presentation to be done in 2 days...*jumps off the building*

But finally...

The event that had somehow kept me bound, in a sense, to Taylor's is over..I'm free, not that I really want to though..I still miss everything bout Taylors: the convenience of having everything within walking distance, the freedom of attire, the 8-3 classes, my friends, the String Ensemble, and the Anime Society..

Life in Intec isn't designed for its student's convenience, its meant to toughen us up enough that we can survive living in the big, bad world out there all by ourselves. For instance, to get a doctor, one has to WALK all the way to the clinics in the shoplots, which is at least 5 times the distance from My Place apartments to Taylors, across the main road and such, regardless of how sick one is. Been seeing several cases of this within the past 2 weeks, considering Xiang Xiang and Jillian had high fevers simultaneously, prompting Christina and I to have practically visited most of the clinics in the area.

The clinics are pretty unique: one has an ultra cool touchscreen laptop to communicate with the medicine dispensary but seemed to have a total lack of hygiene sense, another claimed to be a 24 hours clinic but Jillian, Christina and I had to ring for more than 15 muntes to get him to wake up when we visited at 3am (and he had an intercom and numbers like a bank..imagine that for a little clinic..)

And MAN, do I miss the Taylor's lecturers...and the Taylor's computers that are 95% virus free..Christina's pendrive was infected the very FIRST time she plugged it to the com.

Oh, and did I mention that printing of 1 sheet of paper costs 30cents here? I NEED MY TAYLOR'S PRINT QUOTA!!!!!

But what am I doing ranting about Akasia & Intec life when my main purpose of blogging was to post up on Musical Night??

I wouldn't say it was a complete success, but it was certainly better than I had expected once your ignore the chaos before the event and all the delays...

Chaos before event: Can you believe that half an hour before the event was scheduled to start, the entrance was strewn with sponsor material, rubbish, and goodie bags that should have been arranged neatly a day before...and there was no one to man registration and security...

Well, strings played pretty well, Eine Kleine and Cristofori's Dream was a hit, only Adagio brought about some complaints as it wasn't a suitable starting piece. The solo singing was A-MA-ZING, Janice outdid herself end her powerful voice really mesmerized everyone in the hall.

The Dwn, a rock band, was pretty good I must say, even though I don't exactly fancy rock music. The funny part was Su Lyn and me recording Faye "singing along" to the rock band, much to her indignance...hmmm, youtube, anyone? =P

Jo Ann's piano solo was good. I mean it. She's definitely musically talented; the best violinist we had in strings that it was quite a waste that she didn't play along with us. The other piano solo, by our string's pianist, Zheng Huang was no doubt easier, but better received as her songs, Canon and Valentine were familiar to the the musically illiterate people in the audience.

Ee Theng's singing with her boyfriend accompanying her on the piano had me and Venny singing along in the gallery to Yong Qi, one of my favourites. In fact, the string ensemble was pretty SS up there on the gallery, cheering, hollering, clapping and waving; making more noise than most of the audience. During the performance by Awakening Emotion, man, the audience loved them...their jazz performance really appealed to the crowd...and up on the gallery, well...

Chan Kwok Fai's performance was quite a hit as well, as was Nicholas and Vern Sheng's song and the choir's Petaling Street Love Story towards the end, though many people had already began to take their leave.

There's no way this can live up to last year's musical night, but still, it was better than expected and certainly a great experience indeed.I learned a lot; be it through the bad, or the good...

And well, there're a few that I really want to thank...Faye, for patiently coaching me through the tougher songs in the string ensemble, for standing up for me and listening to my rants when things got too tough..Ho Sheng, for all the help, the photocopied books, and for the faith you had in this noob violinist throughout it all...Hui Yen, for her never-ending support as well as allowing me to use her com until past 12am several times just to finish the Musical Night tickets, banner and poster...My anime society buddies (Ian, Wei Shan, Siak Gee) whose help and support during the simultaneous preparation of both Musical Night and Anime Fest really eased the pressure...The string ensemble, whom I've always enjoyed playing with and dearly miss now that I'm in Intec, for ...My family who spent time and money to attend the performance, even though I know they don't fancy stuff like this...And of course, to whoever else I missed out unintentionally...

Do keep checking for the pics...I'll try upload as soon as I can...

Friendship is like a violin...The strings may loosen over time, but the melody will remain forever...

Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow; Don't walk behind me, I may not lead; Walk beside me and be my friend...
