First Week In Intec...

I'm back in civilisation. Back in the land of aircon, water heaters, and internet. Not to mention that the oily, spicy food, syrupy necafe/tea, cold baths at 12/1 am, exercise under the hot sun in long sleeves, and the sheer lack of sleep has finally taken a toll, and I'm down with a nasty fever. Pah, and to think I've got to get back to Intec tomorrow afternoon...

Faye's right when she said one would tend to avoid getting sick when she's away from home...It really is a torture...

Anyway, I shall now post up the all the conventional, traditional blogging I did in Intec...Ths HANDWRITTEN ones...

DAY 1: 1ST JULY 2007, SUNDAY

So here I am, finally in Intec, and sitting around in my "house" in sheer boredom that I'm actually resorting to the utterly traditional method of "blogging" (I'm sure bloggers out there will understand). I guess I've more or less visioned Akasia to be this way, so no "crushing dissapointment" or whatever when I finally caught sight of this place.

I know I should take advantage of the lack of digital entertainment (wifi only available next week, along with my new laptop) to slep, considering we've all got to catch the bus at 6.30am tomorrow to get to Intec. But no...can't sleep...Having the case of EBS (Excessive Blogger Syndrome) at the moment...

The morning began in total chaos, as there was really loads of stuff to prepare (and I didn't). Anyway, got to Cemara/ Akasia college, met up with Mang Yik, registered, and got into the same room.

Hours later, after settling our stuff with the JPA fellows, we had lunch, then sent Mang Yik back to "My Place". I returned home to continue packing, and mom went to buy I few more necessary items.

Man, you should see the belongings I packed...It seemed like I was moving away PERMANENTLY...

We unloaded our stuff in our rooms, and slowly, began the process of "settling down" in our new "homes"...

I can't believe I'm actually sacrificing my privacy in this way, but fine....I shall CONSENT to giving a tour of my house...

My room...looking more homely now that I've unloaded my stuff

Study tables and bulletin boards for everyone

The toilet, which has a water tank so low that I keep bumping my hand on it each time I bathe.

Some nasty looking parts in the kitchen

Door 1: toilet, Door 2, kitchen, Door 3, balcony.

Mang Yik & I are sharing one room, while in the other, Wai Hang (Sabah) and Kuhanes (Melaka) are roomates.

And well, looks like its going to be a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG week...Several hours into our first day and we've already had 2 long talks which we suffered through in waterproof baju kurungs...

Everyone seems so gloomy now...seems like we'll all retire early (Its past 12.30am, btw). I wonder what's going on in everyone's mind now...everyone just seems so sien...as do I...

I miss home

I miss my friends

I miss Taylor's

I miss the fun we had during Anime Fest

I miss Internet

I miss EVERYONE!!!

Oh well, better keep this paper and continur my entry tomorrow. Will surely have loads to type when I finally get access to the net...

DAY 2: 2ND JULY 2007, MONDAY

I guess I've got a general idea of typical life in Akasia. Wake up early, rush to the bus stop, Fight to get up the bus try to keep balance cos there's NOTHING to hold on to...

A typical "corporate" day would also involve loads of sweating in an annoyingly inconvenient baju Kurung...

Yes, most of our day today was spent waiting in the sweltering heat...utter torture...

We settled our registration, took pictures for the student card, then (typical Malaysian time) spent more than 2 hours sweating and boring myself to death...

Intec, by the way, has an uncanny resemblance to a secondary school...

Secondary school?

I did stop to get some milkshake in the AUSMAT cafe, so called the best cafe in Intec. As with practically every drink there, it was ridiculously sweet. I suppose my vision of the "best cafe" in Intec would be something like Taylor's, so I was rather disappointed to see such a grubby cafe, less than half the size of the Taylor's cafe. Thee bright side? There's some waffle on sale that I really want to try.......

Some boring ceramahs which I doze through, before we were split into groups for the week's LDK. We were then ushered to the field in the HOT SUN for 2 hours of riadah. As Mang Yik had borrowed my looser shirt, I had no choice but to sweat it our in a LONG SLEEVED shirt that was entirely inappropraite for exercise; it was pretty fitting, and BLACK in colour...

Riadah in the hot sun...Everyone doing the Chicken Dance...

This italicized paragraph is just added, as on the second day I dozed off without finishing my post...must have been too tired...

That night, I was in a foul mood as I was exhausted, VERY uncomfortable in my sticky and fitting clothes, and all too eager to get a nice, refreshing shower. No such luck, these people crapped for ages, introducing one committee after another. I never bothered to listen, as throughout the time, I was fidgeting restlessly, and drifting in and out of sleep...

DAY3, 3RD JULY 2007, TUESDAY

The unofficial Vet Science United.

Somehow, probably the way animals can sense their own kind, that's how we "sensed" each othr's presence. Within the first hour of me reaching Cemara/Akasia, I had already met with 2 RECOM Would-be Vets, and this coincidence continued throughout the first 2 days. By the time we left our first day in Intec UiTM, Vet Science United was established, consisting of Xiang Xiang (Penang, going Aussie), Judy (Sibu, going NZ), Jillian (Ipoh, going Aussie), Christina (Alor Setar, going Aussie), Jie Jing (Taiping, going NZ), and me (Subang Jaya, going Aussie). Now there's two more Vet-To-Be s that we haven't found, a Malay Girl and a guy...

Oh, and by the way, congratulate me!!! I just did laundry ENTIRELY on my own for the first time ever!!! (Ok, I know I'm making it sound lik some pampered kid, but really, the closest I've ever come to washing my own clothes is tossing them into the washing machine...)

I guess today isn't as bad as yesterday, as despite the fact that wre had to wear the ridiculously thick, long-sleeved Intec Shirt that had us sweating profusely during riadah. As usual, Riadah was yet another two hours of weird aerobics, Chicken Dance, and some line dancing thingy they called Pocho Pocho.

As usual, doze off during most of the ceramahs...Typical...

DAY 4: 4TH JULY 2007, WEDNESDAY

I wanted to write more today, as our activities ended early, but games of Cho Dai Ti, Speed, Heart Attack, and Black Jack with my new friends, as well as a late night trip to visit some seniors ended up with me reaching the room only after Mang Yik, Kuhanes, and Wai Hang had all slept. So, I suppose I'll just wrap this up and go to bed.

We actually went to met up with a friend of Xiang Xiang's who then offered to take us to meet some of the other seniors. And MAN, do they look matured! No, I do not mean they're old, but they look a hell lot more adult-ish than us, who are merely 1 or 2 years younger by comparison. And they're really really really nice people, so friendly and helpful, and treating us like little kids who need taking care of.

Goodness, I wonder if one year at Intec really turns everyone into matured adults...Life must be real tough here...

And finally, I'v got a bunch of people to actually go NUTTERS with me at the sight of every animal! Here we've already found Scruffy, Stalker (who refused to leave my room for 2 hours), Meow Shu (they want a Meow Ning as well), and Panda...

DAY5: 5TH JULY 2007, THURSDAY

We were officially sworn in as UiTM undergraduates today in a ceremony today (which Jillian and I slept through). Yes, here, we're considered UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATES and not COLLEGE STUDENTS...MUAHAHA...I suppose I can gloat about this...

The closing ceremony which lasted way into the night was both fun and embrassing, as I was FORCED to join the AUSMAT performance by my own teammates. Still can't believe I actually did the CHICKEN DANCE on stage. (Not to mention shouting "I'M GOING TO TAYLOR'S" in front of a hall of UiTM students...

As my file was left on stage after the performance, I went to search for it as the rest were filing out of the hall. When I went outside though, practically everyone was heading for the Buses! I had no idea where were my Vet Science buddies, and therefore assumed that they had all left to return to Akasia college. After waiting for a while, I boarded the next bus.

Halfway through the journey, however, I received a call from Jillian. It was then I realised that my friends were actually waiting for me at the hall! Not only that, but they had even snagged a packet of supper for me. Man, I felt so GUILTY and TOUCHED!

Thank goodness they actually managed to get a bus back, otherwise I would probably be berating myself until now...

DAY 6: 6TH JULY 2007, FRIDAY

Xiang Xiang, Judy, Chrstina, and I, along with a bunch of Judy's friends from Sibu went immediately to pyramid today immediately after we were "released" from college. We went ice-skating, but before that, I returned to Taylor's for a while to visit everyone. Man, I miss everyone there...

Christina, Judy and I, trying on sunglasses just before the shop lady nearly shooed us out...

Already down with a nasty sore-throat...I'm so doomed tomorrow...

DAY 7: 7TH JULY 2007, SATURDAY

Took Christina to SPCA today. I already had a splitting head ache and I bad sorethroat, and it was all I could do to keep from collapsing in sheer exhaustion.

We had a fine time grooming the scruffy looking Chen Chen into a little terrier prince. Hmm...maybe we should go take up grooming instead...Hehe...

As promised, here is the pet-of-the-week. This week, it a bunch of extremely adorable puppies. This litter was brought in with the same neighbour's-stray-dog story...Pah...and are now being fostered by a very nice lady. Hoping they can find good homes...

The puppies...Visit SPCA if you're interested...There're loads more unbearably cute ones...

It was really sad when an old Rottweiler was brought in, though. Pris and Samy had picked it up from its owner on their way back from Segi. Here's the sad story.

The poor Rottweiler had been kept in cage, never released for goodness knows how long. Probably a case of hip dyplaxia had rendered this dog's hindquarters paralysed. According to Pris, this dog was lying in a filthy, WET cage. There was a bad wound on the neck, and it was apparent that there was no chance for this dog's survival.

I saw the Rottweiler just before he died. He had the most mournful eyes I've ever seen, gazing at me not in fear or aggression, but with a sad, resigned look that seemed to ask, "are you going to hurt me too?" I can't deny it, it was far kinder to end the old dog's misery, but DAMN, what's wrong with humans nowadays?? He could have been a perfect companion, a loyal friend...what did he do to deserve such treatment?? He probably never knew a kind word or pat, or got the love that every dog deserves.

It broke my heart to see him this way. I left for a while to tend to the cat, and hen I returned, I saw the needle in the dog's paw, and Samy monitoring it's slowing pulse. I stroked the dead dog, hoping fervently that it had finally earned its peace. You deserved better, old boy, and wherever you are now, may you be well and happy always...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And SPCA is having an emergency fundraising to help rehabilitate a ranch of very VERY badly mistreated horses. Some of them have died, and we've all got to do our part to save them!!! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!!
Please send your cheques "SPCA Selangor Equine Welfare Fund" to SPCA Selangor, Jalan Kerja Air Lama, 68000, Ampang Selangor.
I intend to start a fundraising for this..............
